About ND magnet scrap Data
Neodymium-Iron-Boron (NdFeB) scrap is a high-value rare-earth magnet waste stream. It is predominantly sourced from electric vehicle (EV) motors, wind turbine generators, and hard disk drives (HDDs). Due to its high concentration of critical materials, it is a vital resource for rare-earth element recycling.
Key Characteristics
Critical Rare Earth Content: Contains significant amounts of Neodymium (Nd). High-grade versions may also contain heavy rare-earth elements like Dysprosium (Dy) and Terbium (Tb) used for heat resistance.
Surface Treatment: As these magnets are prone to oxidation, they are typically coated with nickel (Ni) or copper-nickel plating. The condition of this plating is an important factor in scrap valuation.
Safety & Handling: Due to its extreme magnetic pull, specialized non-magnetic packaging or shielding is required for safe transport. Finely powdered neodymium (swarf) is pyrophoric and requires strict hazardous material handling.
