Reunion One Month After the 12th Battery Summit in Tokyo
IRuniverse planned two factory visits for their participation in the 10th APEC International Conference in Xiamen. One of these was to LONGKAI TECHNOLOGY (Ganzhou Longkai Technology Co., Ltd.), a company rapidly growing in the lithium-ion battery recycling sector.

At the call of IRuniverse, a total of five people visited: one each from the battery divisions of Toshiba and Dowa EcoSystem, and three from the Metals & Resources Department of Mitsui & Co. (Guangdong) Trading Co., Ltd.
They traveled from Xiamen to Ganzhou by high-speed rail to inspect LONGKAI TECHNOLOGY's head office and factory. This company was represented by Mr. Feng Zizhen from the Overseas Sales Department at the Battery Summit held in Tokyo in September 2025. For IRuniverse’s Tanamachi and Sugihara, this was a reunion about a month after their visit to Queen's Metal factory in Mizunami.
■Integrated Production of Battery-Grade Lithium Carbonate from LFP Battery Scrap
LONGKAI TECHNOLOGY is one of the top-ranked companies on China's battery recycling "White List" that performs the entire process from the recovery of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery scrap to the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate.
The company originally built its reputation by processing battery scrap and producing lithium carbonate under commission from major battery manufacturers, thanks to its reliable technical capabilities. Incidentally, while there are currently 63 companies on this White List, it is said that only about half are operating effectively.

The company was founded in 2019 by Mr. Fu Xiaolong and his brother, Mr. Fu Zikai. The company name "LONGKAI" is a combination of the brothers' names. Mr. Fu Xiaolong was originally an engineer specializing in manganese-based cathode materials and had built up industry experience, and his technical background underpins the core of the business.
Currently, the company produces about 700 tons of lithium carbonate per month. This scale requires approximately 3,500 to 5,000 tons of black mass, with raw materials including LFP battery scrap and black mass.
This battery-grade lithium carbonate is mainly sold to XTC (Xiamen Tungsten). They have earned XTC's immense trust, and demand for their recycled lithium carbonate is actually outstripping supply. Consequently, as detailed later, they are already constructing a third factory.

■Structural Changes and Intensified Competition in China's EV Recycling Market
In China, government guidelines explicitly set the end-of-life for commercial EVs (taxis, buses, etc.) at five years after delivery. It is anticipated that a large volume of EV batteries from commercial vehicles will emerge from 2028 onward, estimated to reach about 5 million tons, suggesting a sharp surge in recycling demand in the coming years.
On the other hand, the current main source of recycled material is manufacturing waste (such as cathode plates) generated during the production process. While 5-10% of production typically goes to recycling as defects or surplus, the volume of waste materials is decreasing due to improvements in manufacturing quality.
As a result, competition among recycling companies is intensifying, and securing raw materials has become a new challenge. Currently, 63 lithium recycling companies are registered on the Chinese government's "White List (National Certification)." As one of these companies, LONGKAI is actively investing in expanding production capacity and constructing new factories to prepare for the expected future increase in scrap batteries.

■Xinyu Factory Scheduled to Start Operations Next Year
The company plans to launch its Third Factory in Xinyu City, Jiangxi Province next year. The new factory will have approximately 1.5 times the production capacity of the current facility, and the materials processed will be expanded from conventional LFP batteries to include Ternary Lithium Batteries (NCM/NCA).
At full operation, the production capacity is expected to be 1,000 to 1,200 tons per month, or 15,000 tons annually, of battery-grade lithium carbonate. This will establish a system to cope with the anticipated rapid increase in the volume of end-of-life batteries.
Furthermore, they plan to extract valuable metals such as cobalt chloride and nickel chloride from ternary batteries, with XTC also expected to be the largest buyer for these products.
■Overseas Expansion and Prospects for Sino-Japanese Cooperation
Mr. Fu Xiaolong has expressed his ambition to strengthen partnerships with overseas companies and establish overseas bases as a future policy. While EV sales have temporarily slowed in Europe and the US, opportunities for cooperation are expanding in the Asian region, suggesting that Sino-Japanese coordination in technology and materials circulation will become increasingly important.
Through its reliable technical capabilities and aggressive stance toward facility expansion, LONGKAI TECHNOLOGY is solidifying its position within China's recycling industry.
