About Automobile Shredder Residue Data

Automobile Shredder Residue (ASR) is an abbreviation for Automobile Shredder Residue, which is the waste remaining after end-of-life vehicles are shredded to recover steel and other useful metals.

The main components of ASR are about 75% combustible components such as plastics, urethane, rubber, and fibers, while the remaining 25% consists of noncombustible components such as glass and small amounts of metals.

In the past, it was mainly disposed of in landfills, but the Automobile Recycling Law, which came into effect in 2005, requires automobile manufacturers and others to recycle such materials. This is based on the idea of extended producer responsibility.

The processing cost at ASR recycling facilities is 25-30 yen per kilogram. Reverse charge.
