I visited JOONG IL METALS Inc. , the largest Korean secondary lead-refining company in Ansan city, Gyeonggi-do, Korea November 18, 2022. It’s been ten years since my last visit and about four years since the big scandal in which 11 manufacturers were referred to prosecutors for alleged illegal dumping of lead slag, and it triggered export stopping of lead acid Battery(LAB) scrap from Japan. What is JOONG IL currently doing, while it imported the scrap around 500t a month during the busiest period? How has the Korean LAB industry been changed? I asked these questions including the company’s message to Japan.
