The saying “once past the throat, the heat is forgotten” aptly describes Japan’s approach to resource crises. It was back in 2010 when Japan was severely impacted by China’s rare earth export ban, which stemmed from tensions surrounding the Senkaku Islands. Yet in the 15 years since, the country has largely relegated the resource crisis to the back of its collective memory.
