LIB Expands Beyond EVs into ESS, Gaining Momentum in the Battery Industry — IRUNIVERSE Hosts the “12th Battery Summit in TOKYO”

On the 25th, IRUNIVERSE held the “12th Battery Summit” at the Tokyo International Forum. With lithium-ion batteries now expanding their demand base from EVs to the ESS sector, the summit explored the future roadmap of the battery industry from multiple perspectives, shining a spotlight on the latest developments in technology and recycling. Co-hosted with SMM (Shanghai Metals Market), China’s No. 1 metals information provider, this year’s summit had a more international flavor than ever before. More than 130 attendees filled the venue, listening attentively to the speakers’ presentations.

Representing the organizers, Yuji Tanamachi, CEO of IRUNIVERSE, emphasized the significance of the event as it marked its 12th edition. He noted at the outset:

“Speakers include not only SMM from China, but also Ganzhou Longkai Technology Co., LTD, which specializes in recycling LFP batteries, making for a highly diverse program.”

As a guest of honor, Yasutoshi Nishimura, a member of the House of Representatives and former Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as Acting Chairman of the Parliamentary League for the Battery Industry, delivered remarks. He opened with:

“While EV growth is slowing, stationary storage is rapidly expanding. Those who dominate the battery sector will inevitably dominate the world.” He went on to add:

“From upstream to downstream, we must form global alliances, nurture talent, and ensure that Japan’s battery industry firmly develops into a core industry of this country. I am committed to supporting this effort.”

At the networking reception following the lectures, discussions continued energetically, with conversations around the latest insights introduced during the sessions. Thanks to the co-hosting with SMM, which brought in a more diverse lineup of international speakers than usual, the event provided a truly global networking atmosphere.

The program of the day was as follows. Details of the lectures will be distributed at a later date.
