The domestic market for lead-acid battery scrap is currently at 90-100 yen per kilogram (automobile batteries) nationwide. The price of 100 yen is becoming the standard. While it is so called “fevered market”, it is needless to say that Chinese dealers are buying at high prices in the background. Both domestic secondary and primary refiners are becoming increasingly concerned about the expansion of these Chinese dealers, and are appealing to the government and Kasumigaseki to revise laws and tighten regulations.
