Deltamarin Collaborates with CSL to Design A New Self-Unloading Bulk Carrier

Deltamarin’s series of energy-efficient cargo ships reached yet another milestone as Canada Steamship Lines (CSL), a unit of the CSL Group, has entered into a contract to build a new cutting-edge, self-unloading ship based on Deltamarin’s design. This new highly sustainable, safe and efficient ship is being built at the Chengxi Shipyard in China. Deltamarin announced recently. (Photo quoted from Deltamarin’s website)

Deltamarin developed the vessel concept in close cooperation with CSL. The vessel is a custom-made, state-of-the-art Great Lakes self-unloading bulk carrier with a deadweight of 26,000 metric tonnes that will operate in a safe, sustainable and efficient way along the eastern seaboard of Newfoundland and the Great Lakes region.

The highly fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vessel features several innovations to enhance efficiency and safety. A diesel-electric, tier III engine configuration has been selected and a unique hull design will contribute to cutting CO2 emissions and improving energy efficiency. Quieter machinery will reduce vessel noise to protect the area’s North Atlantic right whales and other marine mammals. A unique hull design in combination with the state-of-the-art propulsion system will enhance the manoeuvrability of the vessel and increase the safety of navigation in shallow waters.

“We are honoured again to have an opportunity to work together with our long-term client CSL Group to develop this pioneering ship, introducing a new level of performance, safety and environmental sustainability,” says Vesa Hamarila, Senior Advisor at Deltamarin.

The concept design work was carried out at Deltamarin’s Finnish offices, while the basic and detail design work for the shipyard was conducted at Deltamarin’s Shanghai office in China.
