Sojitz Invests in Universal Hydrogen to Enter the Hydrogen Fuel Aviation Business

Sojitz Corporation has invested in Universal Hydrogen Co. (UH2), a company headquartered in California that is engaged in the development and practical implementation of hydrogen fuel-powered aircraft and construction of a hydrogen supply network for aviation. Through this partnership with UH2, Sojitz is making its foray into the hydrogen aviation business. (Logo  quoted from Sojitz’s website)

Global measures to combat climate change are becoming increasingly urgent, and the aviation industry, which accounts for approximately 3% of the world’s CO2 emissions, seeks to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) are working together alongside major airlines in Japan and overseas to collectively accelerate new technological developments and sustainable initiatives within the global aviation industry.

With over 60 years of experience in the aviation industry creating strong relationships with aircraft manufacturers, airlines and airport operators, Sojitz will enter the hydrogen aviation business in strategic partnership with UH2.

By combining Sojitz Group’s know-how with UH2’s world-class hydrogen technology and networks, Sojitz and UH2 aim to introduce and promote the spread of hydrogen-fueled aircraft as well as provide new solutions to the market for building a hydrogen supply chain with the goal of reducing the aviation industry’s environmental impact.
