BHP-Local Indigenous Business Awarded Cleaning Contract

Local Hedland Indigenous Business, Boodarie Contracting, has been awarded a contract for cleaning services in the West End of Port Hedland. BHP announced on April 27. (Photo quoted from BHP’s website)
As part of BHP’s $300 million Pilbara Air Quality Program, Boodarie will provide cleaning of infrastructure and local amenities for the next 24 months. The contract will include weekly, fortnightly, monthly, and quarterly cleaning of footpaths, shopfronts, and signs, as well as public seats, playgrounds, and parks.
BHP General Manager Port Operations, Nilson Davila said: “The program is an important part of our integrated approach to dust management in Port Hedland, and follows recent announcements on the building of a wind fence at Finucane Island and the creation of a vegetation barrier to collect dust in the West End.”
Boodarie Contracting, Director and Karriyarra Traditional Owner of Port Hedland, Kerry Robinson said: “We are looking forward to partnering with BHP to provide this important cleaning service. I’m happy to be securing long term opportunities for my business on-country, and providing employment opportunities for Karriyarra people.”
BHP is committed to ensuring Port Hedland remains a great place to live and work, having spent A$400 million on dust related control measures over the past decade.
