Lead Battery Scrap Market Update 2019#9 New trend on Battery and
In regard to the latest supply and demand in lead battery scrap, a lead secondary smelter said that the amount of lead battery production has fallen from the latter half of June. The low supply depended on the season, but it’s dropped by 30% compared to the highest volume at end of the year.
Slightly high prices due to production and inventory decline
The company produced a large amount of batteries in the first half of June and hold a lot of stock, so they lowered the purchase price of automobile battery scraps by 6 to 8 yen. However, they raised the price a bit, put it back to the standard price for the market at 36 to 42 yen.
Under the circumstances, the company’s dealer said “the other companies raised prices, so I want you to do that, too.” A recycling company said, “battery scraps are currently less expensive, so we will wait and see until the market is going up.”
Domestic production decreased and some companies held their stock due to the low price. As a result, it seems to cause a chain reaction that the amount of battery scraps to smelters was reduced and the price rose.
“LME lead has been rising lately, but few customers asked to raise the purchase price of battery scrap after the price rose,” he added.
However, a flurry of speculation about price rising and dropping swirled everywhere, so many people were confused.
Reused battery for Korea flows in July
Speaking of the lead battery scrap export, Japanese trade statistics said that battery scrap exports to Korea were completely zero in May. However, it is said that reused products have been on the move since July. According to the lead secondary smelter as mentioned earlier, their exporters have also confirmed the payment for the product.
The main items are industrial batteries and lift batteries, and the unit price is around 80 yen to 100 yen because lift batteries are expensive. However, there are a lot of necessary documents on export to Korea, and it seems that many exporters tend to avoid dealing due to the complicated procedures.
Also, there was a request for export to Australia, even though the lead secondary smelter would start in India a bit while ago. There have been no exports yet so far.
Their contract on Bullion export for Korea was 320 ton/mon, and it’s 360 tons in July.
