1967年にトヨタが開始した中古車オークションの発展について、1985年に世界初のTVオークションを開催したオークネットの歴史を通じて振り返る。

また、昨今の輸出市場の活況や中古車の売買方法の変遷を通じて今後のオークションの在り方について説明する。

Presentation Title:

“The Evolution and Future of the Vehicle Auction Market”

 

Presentation Summary:

This presentation will review the development of Japan’s used vehicle auction market, beginning with Toyota’s launch of auctions in 1967 and tracing the evolution through AUCNET’s historic milestone—the world's first televised auction in 1985.

 

Mr. Ohata will also explore how recent trends, including the booming export market and changes in how used vehicles are traded, are reshaping the role and future of vehicle auctions in Japan.

 

Speaker Profile:

Mr. Ohata began his career at Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight) in 1992.

 

He earned an MBA from Waseda University Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies in 2000.

 

He joined AUCNET Inc. in 2005, where he held leadership roles across corporate planning, network business, and the four-wheel vehicle division.

 

He was appointed Executive Officer in 2014 and became Executive Managing Officer in 2020.

 

In 2025, he also assumed the role of President & CEO of AUCNET’s subsidiary i-AUC Co., Ltd.
