In recent years, Chinese magnet manufacturers and related equipment companies have been quietly expanding into the Japanese market and pursuing acquisitions behind the scenes. A symbolic example is the acquisition of the long-established magnet manufacturer Tokyo Ferrite Manufacturing by the Chinese-backed company Maglab (麦格雷博) in July 2025. However, looking across Japan’s magnet industry as a whole, a wave of fundamental restructuring is also hitting major domestic players, creating what could become a significant opening for further Chinese expansion.
