1.09 Billion RMB! Shangtai Technology Plans to Build a 50,000-Ton Lithium Battery Anode Material Project in Malaysia
On October 14, Shangtai Technology officially announced its plan to invest in the construction of a production facility in Malaysia with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of lithium-ion battery anode materials. The project will be carried out through a wholly-owned subsidiary established with either the company’s own funds or self-raised capital.
According to the announcement, the total investment is initially estimated at approximately $154 million USD, equivalent to about 1.09 billion RMB. The construction is expected to take 24 months, aiming to create a modern production base for lithium-ion battery anode materials that integrates research and development, manufacturing, and sales, leveraging advanced production technologies and efficient management practices.
As a leading high-tech enterprise in the field of independent R&D, integrated production, and sales of emerging lithium-ion battery anode materials, Shangtai Technology sees this investment in Malaysia as a strategic move. This project comes in response to the global energy structure adjustment and the steady implementation of “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” policies, representing the company’s effort to seize opportunities in overseas markets.
The company noted that with the rapid growth in demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage worldwide, the market for lithium-ion batteries, as a core component of these industries, is expanding swiftly. Therefore, the company has decided to establish a subsidiary abroad and build an anode material production base to better serve international customers, be closer to end markets, and respond more effectively to customer demands.
The project is located in Malaysia, not only for its advantageous geographical position, facilitating integration with international markets, but also because Malaysia boasts a well-developed supply chain in the new energy industry and offers favorable policy support. Shangtai Technology emphasized that this investment would enable the company to establish closer technical exchanges and cooperation with international partners, enhancing its technological capabilities and brand image. Additionally, manufacturing directly overseas will help meet the needs of foreign end customers and markets, increasing the company’s influence in the global market.
To ensure the smooth execution of the project, Shangtai Technology has developed a detailed project plan and timeline and will make phased investments cautiously. The company expressed its intention to fully leverage its technological advantages and industry experience to ensure that the project meets its expected goals in terms of technology, quality, and cost. Additionally, Shangtai Technology will actively seek partners and financing channels to provide strong support for the project’s successful progress.
