China Eases Import Restrictions on Metal Scraps like Copper and Aluminum — Implementing from November 15
10/28/2024 15:40
It has been revealed that China plans to permit the import of copper and aluminum scrap that meets certain standards starting from November 15. Although some import restrictions on metal scrap were relaxed at the end of 2020 based on quality standards, this decision will further expand the types of metal scrap excluded from regulation. This marks a new step towards policies aimed at both environmental protection and decarbonization through the utilization of scrap materials, as the initial environmental goals have been met to a certain extent. This move is likely to prompt changes in the existing logistics map for recycled materials across Asia, which had been established on the premise of China’s import ban on solid waste, including metal scrap, implemented between 2017 and the end of 2019.
